Hochschule Offenburg is hosting US Fulbright Scholar Matt Knutson, an esports expert and Assistant Professor at the University of North Dakota. This marks only the second time in the university’s history that Hochschule Offenburg has received this prestigious distinction.

During his stay, Dr Matt Knutson will support the university in further developing its esports activities. He will advise university leadership on possible directions for expanding esports initiatives, contribute his expertise to student learning through block courses, and continue his historical research into early German competitive gaming leagues, including the 1982 Atari VCS Bundesliga.

His visit will also open esports-related discussions to the wider academic and local community. On 6 June, to mark World Tetris Day, an internal tournament will be organised for the university community. On 11 June, Knutson will give a public English-language lecture titled “250 Years of Competition in the U.S.”. His programme will conclude with a public esports tournament during Hochschule Offenburg’s Open Campus Day on 20 June.
